One factor that google looks out when it comes to determining if they should rank your site higher or lower is bounce rate. That’s how many people go to your website and just bounce right off.

If they are leaving right away, that means they are not finding what they are looking for.

How to decrease your Bounce Rate?

Step 1

The first thing you need to do is show your product or content first. If people are coming to your site because of your e-commerce product, make sure you showcase your products. After coming to your site because of your service oriented or informational site, make sure you showcase the text first.

I do it wrong. On my blog,  I would showcase opt-in first, then you would have to scroll down beneath the fold before you got to the content. Do you know what happened? My bounce rate was high. The moment I removed the Opt-in and ads above the fold and I showcase the proc to the content first, my bounce went down.

Step 2

Make sure your text size is large enough. What I found out is when your text size is really small, it increases your bounce rate. Hard for people to read, specially at their mobile devices.

Step 3

Make your web pages very minimalistic. If you go on my website, you’ll notice that I have way too much stuff going-on. Over the years I decrease it but I still need to do a better job of getting rid a lot on my sidebar elements. I did a test, right just showcase content for the blog post. We did it on Jes Kris Dev blog. If you go to JesKrisDev.com/blog and if you look at some of the blog post, you’ll notice that we just showcase the content. Why do we do this? Because it decrease the bounce rate versus having big side bar. Just Give readers what they want first is a great way to decrease the bounce rate.

Step 4

The next thing you need to do is cross link. The moment you link your content with other page of your website, you’ll notice that people start spending their time going throughout your whole site versus just bouncing off that page.

Step 5

Make sure you add images. Images are visually appealing and keeps people there. The images could be image or video or could be audio file. That is another type of content that is not text based, that keeps people engage. That decreases your bounce rate.

If you do those things, people stick on your website longer. Your bounce rate will go down and you’ll rank higher in google over time.
